Marking the World Biodiversity Day, IFS officers shared moments of epiphany amid exploration that stitches the tale of all the different kinds of life one finds in one area and how they mutually support each other.
While WB cadre IFS Parveen Kaswan, narrated the love story of hornbills that eventually afforests the jungle, others too shared art and pictures.
Mr Kaswan posted a picture of a handful of seeds of different species collected from under a tree that has a hornbill nest. He tweeted, “Diversity is the insurance for future. Seeds of different species fallen under a tree which has hornbill nest. And this is why they are called as farmers of forest. Today is #BioDiversity day.”
In the thread, Mr. Kaswan further described why hornbills are called farmers of forest. But the best part of it is the nurturing of a single species that leads to a chain reaction. As hornbill father takes care of his partner, who is nestling to keep their eggs warm, he drops the seeds that will create the future forest.
He shared how the hornbills help in improving and preserving diversity.
Mr. Kaswan also documented how nature benefits.
IFS officer Sudha Ramen has also shared her artwork she made few months back to showcase how umbrella species sustain ecosystems and the species in it.
While senior IFS Ramesh Pandey shared a series of drawings to show how loss of species leads to destruction of destruction of flora as they are interlinked.
To increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues the United Nations has proclaimed May 22 as International Day for Biological Diversity.
