Gandhidham has officially transitioned from a municipality to a municipal corporation, marking a historic milestone for the city. Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel visited Gandhidham for the first time after the transition, inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for 66 development projects worth Rs. 176 crore.

At the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Auditorium in Gopalpuri, Gandhidham, Mr. Patel performed the e-foundation stone-laying ceremony for key city development works. He congratulated the residents on achieving municipal corporation status and emphasized the state government’s commitment to elevating Gandhidham — the economic capital of Kutch and a key industrial hub of Gujarat — to new heights of development.
Iconic Infrastructure and Smart Facilities Redefine Gandhidham
Among the initiatives are a modern fire station, a smart library, an iconic entrance gate, and urban infrastructure projects designed to give Gandhidham a distinctive identity. The road from Gopalpuri Gate to Sarvodaya Cricket Ground will be developed as the iconic ‘Gaurav Path’, symbolizing the city’s new stature.
Urban Development Budget Increased by 40 Percent to Rs. 30,000 Crore
To accelerate urban transformation, the Gujarat government has increased its urban development budget by 40 percent, bringing the total allocation to Rs. 30,000 crore. Gandhidham Municipal Corporation’s annual budget has risen from Rs. 110 crore to Rs. 608 crore, reflecting a six-fold increase and enabling large-scale infrastructure and welfare-oriented projects.
Holistic Approach to City Growth Includes Fire Station, Library, Roads, and Parks
The development works encompass people-centric facilities such as streets, water supply systems, drainage, gardens, and ponds, alongside modern amenities including the fire station and library. These projects embody a holistic approach to urban planning, aligning with principles of inclusive growth, ease of living, and future-ready infrastructure.

Mr. Patel highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in turning urbanisation into an opportunity, fostering well-planned city development across Gujarat. He noted that Gujarat has become a model of urban development, with rapid progress in trade, industry, employment, education, healthcare, and infrastructure under the PM’s visionary guidance.
Gandhidham Positioned as Economic and Industrial Hub of Kutch
With 11 surrounding villages merged into the corporation, Gandhidham is now poised for faster and more organised development. The city’s strategic importance as Kutch’s economic and port hub will be enhanced through planned infrastructure, industrial expansion, and employment generation initiatives.
Future-Ready Cities for Viksit Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Bharat 2047
The Chief Minister emphasized making cities future-ready to contribute to Viksit Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Bharat by 2047. He encouraged efforts under the motto “Sauno Saath, Sauno Vikas, Sauno Vishwas, Sauno Prayas” to build sustainable urban centres that combine economic growth with social inclusivity.
