In a decisive move to aid farmers affected by unseasonal rains, Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel on Sunday announced that the state government will soon roll out a comprehensive relief package for those who suffered heavy crop losses across various districts. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the government stands firmly with the farming community during this challenging time and assured that all possible measures will be taken to provide timely assistance.
According to an official statement, unseasonal rains over the last few days have caused significant damage to standing crops in multiple regions. The Chief Minister took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that ministers have been visiting the affected areas to personally assess the ground situation and that the administration has already initiated a swift review and survey process to determine the extent of the damage.
3-Day Deadline for Comprehensive Crop Damage Assessment
Taking immediate action, Mr. Patel has directed all district collectors and district development officers to complete a comprehensive survey of crop damage within three days and submit detailed reports to the state government without delay. He stressed that the primary objective is to ensure prompt compensation and that no farmer faces inconvenience in receiving relief.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar, the Chief Minister emphasized that accurate data on the extent of crop damage is vital for implementing relief measures effectively. He instructed officials to prioritize assistance to farmers, especially those in severely affected regions, and ensure that relief reaches them at the earliest.
High-Level Meeting Focused on Relief and Rehabilitation
The meeting, held at the state capital, saw participation from top officials including Chief Secretary Mr. M.K. Das, Additional Chief Secretary (Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare) Ms. Anju Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Ms. Jayanti Ravi, Principal Secretary (Finance) Mr. T. Natarajan, Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Ms. Avantika Singh, and Secretary Mr. Vikrant Pandey.
Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Harsh Sanghavi and Agriculture Minister Mr. Jitu Vaghani also joined the meeting via video conference, presenting detailed reports on the extent of crop loss in different districts.
Expressing deep concern over the damage caused by the unseasonal rainfall and changing weather patterns, the Chief Minister directed that utmost priority be given to extending full assistance to the farmers. He reiterated the need for swift action and assured that the government’s support mechanisms are being mobilized to address farmers’ grievances efficiently.
Relief Package to Be Announced Soon
Mr. Patel stated that the government’s relief and assistance package will be announced soon after reviewing the survey reports from the districts. “The administration has swiftly initiated the process of reviewing and surveying the crop damage. I am in constant coordination with ministers and officials in this regard,” he wrote on X.
He assured that farmers will not be left alone during this crisis and that the government will extend every possible support to help them recover from the impact of the rains. The upcoming relief package is expected to include financial compensation, agricultural input support, and rehabilitation measures to ensure that affected farmers can resume cultivation without major setbacks.
