In a significant move to strengthen tourism and regional development, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple projects worth Rs. 1,140 crore during his two-day visit to Gujarat to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. The celebrations coincide with the 150th birth anniversary of India’s Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
During the visit, the Prime Minister also released a special Rs. 150 commemorative coin and a postage stamp dedicated to Sardar Patel, honoring his monumental contribution to national unity. The new projects aim not only to enhance visitor experiences around the Statue of Unity but also to empower local communities and promote sustainable tourism in the region.
Major Infrastructure and Tourism Projects Announced
The development initiatives are primarily centered in Ekta Nagar, Kevadia — home to the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity. The projects have been conceptualized to elevate the tourist experience, strengthen eco-tourism, and provide modern amenities without compromising environmental balance.
Among the key projects are the construction of a sports complex, a Veer Balak Udyan, and a Dam Replica Fountain that will visually showcase the engineering marvel of the Narmada Dam. A scenic walkway from Ekta Dwar to Shreshtha Bharat Bhavan will also be developed, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Focus on Education, Empowerment, and Sustainability
A key highlight of the announcement is the establishment of the Birsa Munda Tribal University in Rajpipla, designed to promote higher education, skill development, and empowerment among tribal youth. The university will serve as a center for research, culture, and innovation, reflecting Gujarat’s commitment to inclusive growth and equitable development.
To preserve biodiversity and strengthen the ecological landscape, a Vaman Vriksha Vatika and a Satpuda Protection Wall are being created. These initiatives will contribute to the conservation of native flora and fauna while supporting sustainable eco-tourism in the region.
Cultural Heritage and Hospitality Expansion
The state government also announced the creation of the Museum of Royal Kingdoms of India, a major cultural project designed to showcase the legacy and heritage of India’s princely states. The museum will highlight the rich tapestry of India’s royal traditions, offering visitors an immersive experience into the country’s regal past.
In addition, Phase 1 of the Garudeshwar Hospitality District is being developed to enhance tourist accommodation and hospitality services. A jetty near Shoolpaneshwar Ghat will improve water-based transport connectivity, while travelators at the Statue of Unity complex will enhance visitor convenience and mobility.
Enhanced Connectivity and Smart Infrastructure
Several infrastructure upgrades are also in progress to ensure smoother tourist access. These include the Narmada Ghat Extension, Kaushalya Path, and Phase-2 Smart Bus Stops capable of accommodating up to 25 vehicles at a time. Together, these will form a smart mobility network to handle increasing footfall efficiently and sustainably.
The Ekta Diwas Parade, to be held on October 31, 2025, will mark the culmination of these efforts, featuring contingents from India’s premier security forces — BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB — along with state police units, symbolizing unity in diversity.
Building Ekta Nagar as a Model of Development and Sustainability
The Statue of Unity and the surrounding region are being developed as a model of integrated growth, combining tourism, ecology, culture, and community development. With its blend of modern infrastructure and sustainable practices, Ekta Nagar is fast emerging as a blueprint for destination-led regional development in India.
The Prime Minister’s vision for the area underscores a larger national goal — transforming tourism hubs into engines of socio-economic progress while honoring India’s historical and cultural identity.
