In a major step to strengthen higher and technical education in the state, under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren the Jharkhand government has approved approximately Rs 200 crore for the development of universities, affiliated colleges, and the establishment of new degree colleges. The Higher and Technical Education Department has granted administrative approval for the funding under various schemes, including those under the PM-USHA program, aimed at improving education infrastructure across the state.

Strategic Investments in Degree Colleges Across Districts
The government has earmarked funds for constructing new degree colleges in several districts:
- Rs 15 crore for a college building in Meral, Garhwa
- Rs 15.76 crore for a college in Nala, Jamtara
- Rs 9.99 crore for a college in Manoharpur, West Singhbhum
- Rs 25 crore for a degree college in Silli, Ranchi
- Rs 39.21 crore for a college in Thakurgangti, Godda
- Rs 1.04 crore for a college building in Bagodar, Giridih
These investments aim to expand access to higher education in urban and rural areas, ensuring students have modern facilities and conducive learning environments.
Focus on Women’s Education and Empowerment
In line with promoting women’s education, the government has approved:
- Rs 58 crore for constructing a new degree women’s college in Khunti
- Rs 9.98 crore for a hostel at the women’s college in Chatra
- Rs 4.10 crore for renovation at CB College, Beddo
These initiatives are expected to encourage higher participation of women in higher education and provide safe, modern learning spaces.
Upgrades in Infrastructure and Faculty Support
The government is also focusing on infrastructure modernization:
- Electrification of JN College, Ranchi, Dhurwa (Rs 7.4 million) and GL College, Palamu (Rs 3.8 million)
- Rs 3 crore allocated as honorarium for teachers conducting second-shift classes at Ranchi University
These measures aim to improve teaching quality and ensure uninterrupted learning, especially for students who rely on second-shift programs.
Development and Long-Term Educational Impact
With these approvals, the Jharkhand government demonstrates its commitment to educational development, women empowerment, and inclusive access to higher education. The allocation of Rs 200 crore will provide state-of-the-art facilities, boost employment in the education sector, and create opportunities for thousands of students across Jharkhand.
