Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the crucial role of urban development in achieving inclusive growth and economic transformation during the Madhya Pradesh Growth Conclave 2025, themed “Next Horizon: Building Cities of Tomorrow.” The conclave brings together India’s leading real estate developers and urban planners to shape a visionary roadmap for Developed Madhya Pradesh @2047.
Dr. Yadav reiterated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, cities in Madhya Pradesh are being developed as future-ready hubs of infrastructure, investment, and innovation. “Prosperous and developed cities will serve as the foundation stone of the state’s inclusive development,” he said.
Urban Infrastructure Paves the Way for Growth
The conclave highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s rapid progress in urban infrastructure:
- Projects worth ₹72,000 crore are currently underway in urban areas
- An additional ₹88,000 crore in new schemes is proposed
- ₹15,780 crore is allocated annually in the state budget for urban development
The urban sector now contributes 35.55% to Madhya Pradesh’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)
With 7 cities included in the Central Government’s Smart City project and 4 cities crossing the 10-lakh population mark, the focus remains on modern, clean, and efficient urban centers. Indore continues its streak as India’s cleanest city for the 7th year, while Bhopal ranks second among state capitals.
Big Investment Potential in the Housing Sector
The state is witnessing a housing boom backed by policy support and investor interest:
- Over 8.32 lakh affordable houses completed
- 10 lakh new homes under construction with ₹50,000 crore in planned investment
- Strong workforce and modern infrastructure in place to support the real estate sector
With 6,000 km of urban roads, 80% piped water coverage, and 100% sewerage coverage in cities, the state has built a strong base for growth in the housing and infrastructure sectors.
Digital Governance and Seamless Urban Services
Madhya Pradesh has rolled out a single-window approval system for urban development projects and introduced 23 digital services through urban local bodies.
Additionally:
- 17,230 basic service schemes are being implemented in urban areas
- ₹2,800 crore is being invested in clean environment projects
- ₹2,000 crore is earmarked for waterfront development
- ₹21,000 crore worth of projects focus on urban transport
Sustainable Urban Mobility and Green Future
To reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable mobility, the state is investing heavily in electric vehicles (EVs):
- 552 electric buses to be deployed in major cities
- Implementation of Electric Vehicle Policy 2025
