Retired IPS officer KSN Murthy, popularly known as ‘Gabbar Singh’, passed away due to Covid 19 complication in Hyderabad on Sunday 16 May. He was undergoing his treatment in a private hospital in Banjara Hills.
Murthy, 78, is survived by his wife and two sons. He retired in the year 2000 and has been living in Banjara Hills since then.
He had an outstanding career while serving in the Indian Police Service (IPS) in various capacities. Being a strict officer, he was popularly known as ‘Gabbar Singh’, from the iconic Bollywood blockbuster Sholay, in his police circle.
He served as the Assistant Commissioner of Charminar in late 1980s, police commissioner of Vijayawada in 1998-99 and was also promoted as inspector general of police before his retirement.
