Indore has been declared Cleanest city in the country for fourth year consequently. Surat came second, Navi Mumbai came third. A total of 129 Awards were given to differers states under fourth instalment of Swachh Survekshan.
Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Mr Hardeep S Puri, MoS(I/C), has expressed that “Swachh Survekshan will keep on helping us in supporting the increases made under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U), while giving a far reaching guide to systematize the idea of absolute Swachhata among all our cities.
As the presentation of urban areas properly show, we are well en route to making a ‘Swachh’ (clean) however a ‘Swasth’ (sound), ‘Sashakt’ (empowered),’Sampann’ (prosperous) and Atmanirbhar (confident) New India!”.
Mr Puri said , “When the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) was launched in 2014, it was with the goal of making urban India 100% open defecation free (ODF) alongside 100% scientific strong waste management. With no understanding of ODF in urban territories and strong waste handling remaining at a negligible 18%, plainly a quickened approach was important if the Prime Minister’s dream of a Swachh India was to be accomplished inside the time span of five years. A system was subsequently expected to achieve thoroughness in the advancement in checking and a feeling of sound rivalry among states and urban communities to improve their presentation. It was this fundamental idea that prompted the conceptualization and ensuing usage of Swachh Survekshan (SS), a serious structure to urge urban communities to improve the status of urban sanitation while empowering huge scope resident support.”
Secretary, Mr DS Mishra further claimed that Swachh Survekshan 2020 had a staggering scale with the review group visiting more than 58,000 private and more than 20,000 business zones covering more than 64,000 wards in a negligible 28 days.
Also, 1.87 crore residents feedback was received in swachh Survekshan.1.7 crore residents enlisted on Swachhata App. Over 11 crore impacts via web-based networking media Over 5.5 lakh clean specialists connected to social government assistance plans and more than 84,000 casual waste pickers coordinated. Over 4 lakh authoritative workers utilized by Urban Local Bodies.Over 21,000 Garbage Vulnerable Points recognized and changed.
Since 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban has gained noteworthy ground in the territory of both sanitationn and solid waste management. 4,324 Urban ULBs have been announced ODF, 1,319 urban communities affirmed ODF+ and 489 urban areas confirmed ODF++ according to MoHUA’s sanitation conventions.
