The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to stay the Union Government’s order dismissing Gujarat cadre IPS officer Satish Chandra Verma from service. The bench observed that the court is not inclined to interfere with the Delhi High Court’s order refusing to stay the dismissal order, as it was an interim order.
A bench led by Justice KM Joseph, however, granted an early date for a hearing before the Delhi High Court. The court has directed Verma’s plea challenging his dismissal order and disciplinary proceedings against him to be listed before Delhi High Court on November 22.
The court has also requested the high court to dispose of the matter as early as possible, preferably in a period of three months.
After the court wasn’t inclined to grant Verma relief through the stay of his dismissal order, his counsel urged the court to consider that he has put 36 years into service, and may therefore be allowed to go honourable as he was due to retire on September 30.
