Kuldeep Singh Chahal is all set to take over as the new SSP of Chandigarh, the first planned city in the country which houses three state headquarters – Punjab, Haryana, and of course of Union Territory of Chandigarh.
With the city becoming a hot spot for retiring bureaucrats and army officials, maintaining the law and order situation of Chandigarh along with its satellite towns of Panchkula and Mohali, is an important and tricky assignment.
Chahal’s transfer order eye issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on August 7. The Lieutenant Governor had forwarded the names of three IPS officers to The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for this position. The Home Ministry, however, green signaled Chahal, a 2009 batch IPS officer.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) cleared Kuldeep Singh Chahal’s name ostensibly due to his seniority and experience. The other two names were Ketan Baliram Patil and Viveksheel Soni.
Me Chahal will replace the present incumbent Nilambari Vijay Jagdale. She was holding this position since August 2017.
Till now Mr Chahal was holding charge of of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Mohali (Punjab). Chahal was the second longest serving Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Mohali after Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
His first stint startef in December 2016. His tenure ended in February 2019 when he was transferred to Tarn Taran. In July 2019, Kuldeep Singh Chahal was again posted as Mohali SSP.
Before joining as Mohali SSP in 2016 for the first time, Chahal remained Hoshiarpur SSP and before clearing the Civil Services, Kuldeep Singh Chahal was an Assistant Sub-Inspector in Chandigarh Police. In addition, the name of Chahal has also been forwarded to the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) for further orders.
