1992 batch IPS officer Sandeep Rai Rathore will be next Commissioner of Chennai City Police, replacing DGP Shankar Jiwal, a 1990 batch IPS officer who is set to be the next head of the police force following the superannuation of C Sylendra Babu on Friday.
Mr Rathore was the first Avadi City Police Commissioner before he was promoted and posted as DGP- Training last month.
He is a native of New Delhi. He holds MA and M Phil degrees. He studied in Delhi’s prestigious Delhi School of Economics and did MA in Geography from there.
Me Rathore has handle many big cases in hi career including encounter with notorious Charles Sobhraj — the French serial killer, who preyed on Western tourists throughout Southeast Asia during the 1970s, and had committed more than 30 murders.
In 2017, he was posted in the Special Task Force wing in the state. In 2001, he was posted as the Joint Commissioner of Traffic in Chennai. Then, he played important role in the initiative to change all incandescent traffic lights to LED to reduce maintenance cost. Today, all traffic lights in the city are LED powered.
