Baran District Collector Inder Singh Rao along with his personal assistant (PA) was booked, on Friday, in a bribery case by the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Court. Senior IAS Inder Singh Rao had been removed on Wednesday by the Rajasthan govt when his PA was arrested by the ACB for taking a bribe of Rs lakh 1.40 lakh, officials said.
The ACB arrested his PA, Mahaveer Naagar, on Wednesday when he was taking the bribe for issuing a no objection certificate (NOC) for a petrol pump. The former collector was interrogated by the ACB, Kota for 6-7 hours till Thursday morning. Rao’s name was added in the FIR on Friday, Additional Superintendent of Police, ACB, Kota, Chandrasheel Thakur said.
Rao was put under the APO (awaiting posting orders) till further order by the department of personnel in Jaipur. This is the sixth time in his career that he has been put under the APO status, according to Rao’s service record. He is a 1989 batch IAS officer.
His PA Naagar said during the interrogation that he accepted the bribe on behalf of the collector. Naagar claimed, out of 1.40 lakh, the collector’s share was Rs 1 lakh and he took Rs 40,000 for himself, the ACB said. On Friday, an ACB court directed officials to send Naagar to judicial custody till December 24.
