In a major development, the 1993 batch IRS officer Rahul Navin has been appointed as new director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
He has taken charge as the Acting Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He replaced Sanjay Kumar Mishra, an IRS officer of 1984 batch.
With his appointment, Navin becomes the most senior officer within the ED. In addition to his role as Special Director, he also serves as the Chief Vigilance Officer of the ED headquarters.
Mr Navin hails from Bihar and is known to be a man of few words within the investigative agency, but is adept at handling the pen.
Reportedly, he will fulfil the responsibilities of the Acting Director until the formal appointment of a new director takes place.
Besides his new role, Rahul Navin currently serves as the Chief Vigilance Officer at the ED headquarters, showcasing his dedication to maintaining the agency’s integrity. This appointment follows the recent departure of Sanjay Mishra as the Director of the Enforcement Directorate.
Mr Sanjay Kumar Mishra was initially appointed as ED director for a two-year tenure ending in November 2020.
Later, he was granted a one-year extension, which was challenged in the top court. While the court allowed the extension in a September 2021 judgment given his tenure was coming to an end in about two months, it was clear that no further extension was to be granted to Mishra.
