Mysore celebrated the centuries old ‘Dasara’ festival with pomp and grandeur. Various cultural activities, including the procession of ‘Chamundi Devi’, remained the highlights of this year’s festivities as well. The festival saw tourists in thousands enjoying and witnessing the grandeur of this festival.

HISTORY
It is believed that the 10-day long festivities during the Navratri was started in Karnataka by the Vijayanagara Empire kings in the 15th century. Since then, the tradition continues and Mysore Dasara is the state festival of Karnataka.

On the 10th day, that is Vijayadashmi, the procession of Goddess Chamundeshwari in an ‘ambari’ is carried out on an elephant on the streets of Mysore. Besides that, the Mysore Palace is lighted daily with more than 1 lakh bulbs in the evening. This year also, various cultural and religious programmes highlighting the dances, music and culture of Karnataka were performed in front of the illuminated palace. Many people have shared pictures and videos from the festivities on their social media accounts. IFS officer Ramesh Bishnoi from Odisha cadre also shared clips from the festival on X.
