WII’s Workshop Addresses Wildlife Casualties on Railway Tracks

The three-day workshop concluded on November 26, 2023, marking a collective effort to find effective measures to safeguard the well-being of wildlife

On November 23, 2023, the Wildlife Institute of India initiated a comprehensive three-day workshop focusing on guidelines aimed at mitigating the impact of railway infrastructure on elephants and other wildlife.

During the workshop, IFS officer Ramesh Pandey, serving as the Inspector General of PT&E at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), led an enlightening session delving into the intricate challenges associated with the conservation of India’s national heritage animal. His impassioned call to action resonated as a plea to protect our diverse biodiversity and uphold the cultural legacy intricately woven with the majestic Asian Elephant.

Convened by the Project Elephant Division of MoEFCC and the Elephant Cell at WII, the workshop brought together a diverse array of individuals committed to identifying sustainable solutions to address the issue of wildlife casualties on railway tracks.
