Three elephants including two babies, were killed on Monday when a goods train hit them while they were crossing the tracks passing through forests at Rajabhatkhawa in West Bengal’s Alipurduar district.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the Rajabhatkhawa-Kalchini section, an area not equipped with the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) designed to prevent such collisions. Rajabhatkhawa is a forested region situated adjacent to the Buxa Tiger Reserve in northern Bengal.
The tragic collision involving the elephants took place at 7:20 am as an empty goods train was en route from Alipurduar to Siliguri.
