Paushali Roy Becomes First Woman IFS Officer from Tripura

Tripura Forest Service officer Paushali Roy has achieved a significant milestone, emerging as the first woman from the state to be elevated to the esteemed Indian Forest Services (IFS) rank.

Her promotion, along with seven other officers, to the Indian Forest Services was formally announced with a Government of India Notification issued by the Under Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change on December 5.

This notification marked a historic moment for Paushali Roy. Along with Ms. Roy her a husband Abhijit De, were appointed simultaneously. The other newly appointed officers are Krishna Gopal Roy, Naresh Jamatia, Sumit Deb, Jaymallya Bhattcahrjee, Suman Malla, and Bidyut Choudhury.

Roy, currently serving as the Director of Tripura Forest Training Academy in Gandhigram, hails from Agartala. Her parents, Prabir Roy and Pratibha Choudhury, both retired government officials, have been a source of inspiration for her.

Having received her schooling from Shishu Bihar School in Agartala, Paushali Roy pursued her Masters in Forestry Science from NERIST in Itanagar, earning a Gold Medal in 2009. Her journey in the Tripura Forest Services commenced the same year, where she has consistently exhibited dedication and commitment in various roles across the state.

Notably, during her tenure as Sub-Divisional Forest Officer in Bishalgarh in 2015, Roy played a pivotal role in combating illegal wood sawing operations and curbing sand mining in the area. Her resolute actions against unlawful activities earned her a reputation as a formidable force against miscreants involved in illegal practices. She is recognized as a versatile and dynamic officer within the Forest Department.

Roy’s elevation to the Indian Forest Services not only represents her accomplishment but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring women officers in Tripura.
