The Director General of Police (DGP) in Tamil Nadu has submitted a report asserting that there is no apparent case against Senior IPS Officer and Additional Director General of Police, Davidson Devasirvatham, in relation to a fake passport scam. The Tamil Nadu government presented this information before the Madras High Court on Tuesday in response to a public interest writ petition. The petition claimed that numerous Indian passports had been issued to Sri Lankan nationals between 2018 and 2020 based on fraudulent documents during Davidson Devasirvatnam’s tenure as the Police Commissioner of Madurai city.

During the court hearing on Tuesday, the petitioner contended that over 200 fake passports had been issued, while only four police officers faced charges. The petitioner requested the court to transfer the investigation to an independent agency.

The state, represented by Advocate General R Shunmugasundaram, informed the court that the State DGP had conducted an inquiry, revealing no prima facie case against the Additional Director General of Police. He further conveyed that this information had been communicated to the petitioner in September.
