On June 20th, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) convened a meeting with Union government representatives, Kerala’s police Chief, Chief Secretary, and Home Secretary, following which it was announced that as many as twenty state service police officers were going to be promoted to the select lists of 2021 and 2022 of the Indian Police Service (IPS). The Kerala government has submitted a list of sixty eligible officers, from which 20 will be made promotee IPS officers.
During the meeting, the discussions centred on the annual confidential reports and related documents of the shortlisted candidates and its minutes were forwarded to the state government for approval, which shall again be resent to the Union government. The UPSC shall finalise the list and submit it for official appointment after receiving concurrence from the Centre.
After getting promoted to the IPS rank, the concerned officers shall be eligible for extended service until they attain 60 years of age. Retired officers included in the select list can also be reinstated and continue in service until they reach the retirement age of 60.
