Odisha: IPS Officer Arun Sarangi Applies for VRS After Recent Appointment as OPSC Chairman

1990 batch IPS officer of Odisha Cadre, Mr Arun Kumar Sarangi has submitted his application for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), as reported on Wednesday.

Mr Sarangi was recently appointed as the Chairman of the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) by Governor Raghubar Das on September 27.

Prior to this role, Sarangi served as the in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha from December 31, 2023, to August 16, 2024. He effectively managed significant events, including the 2024 general assembly elections and the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.

In a recent conversation with KalingaTV, Sarangi confirmed his decision to apply for voluntary retirement. His appointment as OPSC Chairman, as detailed in the notification by the General Administration and Public Grievance (GA&PG) Department, is set for a term of six years, or until he reaches the age of sixty-two, whichever comes first.

The notification states: “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 316 of the Constitution of India, read with Regulation 3 of the Odisha Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1952, the Governor of Odisha has appointed Shri Arun Kumar Sarangi, IPS, Special Director General of Police (Training) and Director of Biju Patnaik State Police Academy, Odisha as Chairman, Odisha Public Service Commission.
