The Civil Services Day was observed in India on 21 April. The day is marked to rededicate civil servants to the cause of citizen and renew their commitments to public service and excellence in work.

As India is dealing with the second wave of Covid 19 spread, this year the celebration of the occasion was not the same as previous years. Civil servants from all around the country are working in a singular force to contain the spread of the virus and provide safety to the citizens of the nation. Many have also gone beyond their line of duty in helping the general public during such unusual times.

The efforts put in by such officers are being appreciated in the whole of India.

The day was first celebrated in the year 1947, when our first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, addressed the probationers of Administrative Services Officers at Metcalf House, Delhi. He commemorated the day by addressing the importance of civil servants in the country as he referred them as the ‘steel frame of India’.

Whereas, the first function to observe the Civil Services Day was held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on 21 April 2006.
