This is the true-life story of an IIM passed-out banker who left his secure job to follow his dream of becoming a civil servant. Like him, there are numerous others with well-paying jobs who want to throw it all away for a chance at becoming a bureaucrat.

What makes them take the risk of leaving a comfortable career to pursue an uncertain future? Indian Masterminds tries to find out the reason through the story of banker-turned-bureaucrat Divyanshu Chaudhary, who is in IAS now.

A FORMER ENGINEER

Hailing from the capital city of Rajasthan, Jaipur, Divyanshu did his schooling from his hometown itself. After completing his intermediate from Jaipur, he earned a B. Tech degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. After this, he became an MBA from IIM Kolkata.

After arming himself with an engineering degree and an MBA from no less than an IIM, Divyanshu immediately landed a well-paying job at a renowned bank. However, even with a fully secure job, his heart was not satisfied and yearned for something more. Deep inside, Divyanshu knew that Civil Services was his true calling. Therefore, after working in the bank for an entire year, he decided to appear for the UPSC exams for which he went to Delhi for preparation.

UPSC PREPARATION

Initially, Divyanshu decided to select Mathematics as his optional subject as he believed that it was quite a scoring subject. He used basic resources available on the Internet instead of studying from coaching material.

He kept revising as much as he could and solved around 80 to 100 mock test papers. He worked very hard, believing that the prelims exam should not be taken lightly.

“If you do better in the first stage, your confidence will increase,” said Divyanshu.

CLEARED IN SECOND ATTEMPT

Due to a lack of time during his preparation period, Divyanshu could not clear the examination in his first attempt. However, he worked even harder while giving the second attempt and cleared the UPSC examination with flying colors!

He secured an All India Rank of 30 in UPSC Civil Services Examination 2020 and finally achieved his long-time dream of becoming an Indian Administrative Service officer, making his family proud beyond words!

TIPS FOR ASPIRANTS

Divyanshu believes that only hard work can get you the ticket to civil Services. He says that the optional subject should be chosen carefully. One can use the material available on the Internet for preparation.

According to him, maximum revision and writing practice are very important for successfully cracking the UPSC exam.
