It Is My Duty To Set Things Right And I Am Ready To Take The Brunt’, Says IPS officer D Roopa

Indian Masterminds Stories

Speaking her mind and taking the right action without worrying about personal consequences, IPS officer Ms. D. Roopa Moudgil is someone many look up to. With her no-nonsense attitude and the principles she holds on to, the officer has carved a niche for herself and also paid the price in the form of frequent transfers. In more than 20 years of service, she has been transferred more than 40 times. However, the transfers or the controversies have never affected her work. She feels that, as an officer, she has the responsibility to set things right. If that comes with a brunt, then she is ready to face it.

In the past two decades, the officer has never succumbed to any pressure or backed out of any task. All this courage didn’t come easy to her. With lots of dreams and a desire to change the world, she joined the police force. But the reality dawned when she went on the field and was given postings. She told Indian Masterminds that even after getting good ranks and services, the caliber of female officers is still doubted. People believe that women are delicate & emotional and won’t be able to handle big responsibilities. It is a big task to make others listen to your commands, especially sub-ordinates.

In the interview, she talks about gender bias in policing, and why women are not given top positions or difficult tasks like anti-naxal or anti-terrorist force command. The officer also pointed out why women are under-utilized in the police & intelligence.
