Dr. Chittaranjan Dhangada Majhi is not your regular Indian Revenue Service (C&IT) officer, dealing only with numbers and laws. There’s much, much more to him, and singing is just one of his hidden talents. Beyond his day job lies a passion for music, which recently blossomed into a captivating song titled “Vande Bharat.”
Speaking with Indian Masterminds, Mr. Chittaranjan, who is posted as Additional commissioner (CBIC) in the office of the Chief Controller of Factories, Delhi, which comes under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, shared about his artistic journey including his newly launched music video.
ARTISTIC JOURNEY
Dr. Chittaranjan’s artistic journey began in his school days, where he penned poems for national events. While the pressure of his career initially dimmed this creative spark, his posting in Delhi in 2016 rekindled it. He embarked on a six-year journey of learning Hindustani classical music under the guidance of Guru Sri Shaliendra Goswami. “I told my Guru that I want to present something but he said that my voice is not ready for public. However, after one year my Guruij suggested that..” Now you are ready for public performance”,” Mr. Chittaranjan shared.
This journey culminated in the birth of “Vande Bharat,” a song inspired by the philosophy of the Indian Constitution, the vision of a New India, and the Prime Minister’s goal of Viksit Bharat.
MAKING OF VANDE BHARAT
Fuelled by his newfound musical knowledge and inspired by the vision of a “New India” and a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India), Mr. Chittaranjan penned “Vande Bharat” on Republic Day 2023. The song, brimming with the philosophy of the Indian Constitution and the aspirations for a prosperous future, resonated deeply within him.

Determined to share his creation, the IRS officer spent the next six months meticulously crafting the music video. He carefully selected visuals from official sources, capturing the essence of India’s progress, culture, and heritage. He even ventured online to collaborate with a young editor who brought the video to life. “When I was writing this song, a band kind of music with traditional Indian instruments and western instruments was in my mind. Before recording, I did my riyaaz for 2 months continuously,” the officer shared with Indian Masterminds.
“Vande Bharat” is not just Mr. Chittaranjan’s debut public offering; it’s a testament to the power of passion and dedication. He juggles his official duties with weekend music lessons, finding inspiration in everyday life and using his mobile phone to capture fleeting creative sparks.
This dedicated officer’s work goes beyond the song itself. He envisions it as a tool to inspire future generations, urging everyone to watch it with their children. His hope is for “Vande Bharat” to resonate in schools, fostering cultural awareness and igniting the flames of ambition within the young minds of India.
DEBUT PERFORMANCE
This marks the officer’s debut performance of his first song in public. While this song is his initial venture into public performance, he has previously penned numerous compositions. Among them are a song dedicated to the Tiranga (the Tricolor flag of India), and another addressing fundamental duties. Although he intends to share these creations with the public, it will require some time. Additionally, he has delved into crafting songs centered around Ram Bhajan (devotional songs dedicated to Lord Rama) and has begun exploring romantic themes in his writing. Furthermore, he is currently engaged in learning Urdu to incorporate its poetic essence into his compositions.
Dr. Chittaranjan has also written a short poem on fundamental duties.

MESSAGE TO PUBLIC
The officer’s song encompasses a wide array of themes, touching upon various aspects such as sports, culture, progress, industry, railways, infrastructure, roads, and ports. “The overarching goal is to beckon everyone to lend an ear to this melodious composition,” he added.
The accompanying video aims to leave a lasting impact on the general public. It highlights themes of women empowerment, including the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament, as well as showcases India’s rich heritage and diverse landscapes.
Dr. Chittaranjan’s story serves as an inspiration, reminding us that creativity can flourish even amidst demanding careers. “Vande Bharat” stands as a beautiful expression of artistic talent and unwavering patriotism, offering a glimpse into the multifaceted lives of the individuals who serve our nation.
