In the heart of Dewas in Madhya Pradesh, a visionary project is revolutionizing the educational landscape – the Mera School, Smart School Project. Spearheaded by District Magistrate Rishav Gupta, this initiative aims to bridge the gap between private and government schools by introducing cutting-edge technology in classrooms.

The project, born out of a keen observation and a passion for transforming education, has already made significant strides in enhancing the learning experience for thousands of students.

Indian Masterminds exclusively spoke with IAS Rishav Gupta to get more details about the project.

THE GENESIS

According to psychology, learning with audio-visual aids is more impactful than traditional methods. During the District Magistrate’s visits to private and government schools, a glaring disparity in classrooms, infrastructure, and students’ presentations became apparent. The root cause? Private schools were well-equipped with audio-visual labs and classrooms, a luxury that government schools lacked. The realisation sparked the idea to provide 40+ inches smart TVs to all government schools.

“Our plan was to collaborate with subject experts to develop and deliver e-content, ensuring students benefit from modern teaching methods,” the officer shared with Indian Masterminds.

THE INSPIRATION

The onset of the pandemic brought education to crossroads. With the necessity to shift to digital learning, both students and teachers faced challenges in adapting to this new mode.
Recognizing the potential of digital education, especially for government schools lacking proper tools, the Mera School, Smart School Project was launched. The primary goal was to provide smart TVs to every primary and middle school, ensuring that the digital mode of learning becomes accessible to all.

THE IMPLEMENTATION

The project ambitiously covers all 1669 primary and middle schools in Dewas, aiming for a comprehensive transformation of the education system.

The success rate of the project is nothing short of overwhelming, hovering around an impressive 100%. The positive impact is felt throughout the educational ecosystem.

THE FACILITIES

The officer has ensured that numerous facilities are provided to the students under his Mera School, Smart School project. These facilities include –

  1. 40+ inches smart TV donated through public participation and contributions.
  2. Grade and subject-wise e-content developed in collaboration with subject experts to cater to diverse learning needs.
  3. Internet facilities ensuring schools have access to the vast educational resources available online.
  4. Training for teachers equipping educators with the skills to effectively utilize the e-content and smart TV technology.

“The number of students that have benefited from the project speaks volumes. We have touched over 56,590 primary-level students and 39,585 middle-level students who are currently reaping the benefits of this innovative project,” shared the officer.

FUTURE ENDEAVOURS

The officer and his team have also initiated a collaboration with an organization for developing e-content in Mathematics and Science for classes 6th to 8th, ensuring a holistic educational experience.

Along with that, Mr. Gupta is initiating smart room development in all 1669 schools, including computer systems, rich libraries, and fully equipped internet connections. This aims to create an immersive learning environment conducive to intellectual growth.

The Mera School, Smart School Project stands as a beacon of change in the realm of education. Under the leadership of IAS Rishav Gupta, it has not only addressed the immediate needs of the students but has also set the stage for a more technologically advanced and inclusive educational system in Dewas. As this initiative continues to evolve, the future of education in the district looks brighter than ever.
