The IAS officer is Thiru KS Kandasamy, the District Magistrate of Tiruvannamalai.  And he saluted the woman police official for giving precedence to duty over life.

Brushing aside all cautions, Inspector Allirani not only carried the body of a Covid victim but also made arrangements for its cremation. Such was the fear in the village where this incident took place that not even the immediate family members of the victim were willing to touch the body.

The video of the Mr Kandasamy saluting the woman cop has gone viral and netizens are exploding with cheer.

Salute That Won Hearts

Kandasamy was awarding the officials who had exhibited immense bravery by going beyond the call of their duty. When Inspector Allirani’s name was called out, she went towards the dais, collected her award and before she could leave, the IAS officer asked her to take his spot. Then, he saluted the lady cop and praised her display of valiance.

Allirani had gone to the field in S Navalpakkam on June 14, after getting information about a crowd which had gathered gathered there. She found Ammavasai, 35, dead after he came in contact with an illegal electric fence set up to stave off animals.

Nobody came near the body, or offered any assistance. With the help of an auto driver, Inspector Allirani took the body to the hospital and arranged for its cremation.
