Sharing his `Mantra’ of Success

By offering step-by-step strategies and tricks to UPSC aspirants, a young IPS officer Lakshay Pandey has set the social media on fire. A large number of them have expressed their gratitude to him.

Tips and tricks for UPSC preparation play a key role for the aspirants, more so if these are shared by people who have already excelled in the exam. Civil servants have also taken keen interest in helping the aspirants in every way possible, be it by providing their personal notes or giving suitable advice for preparations. An IPS officer of 2018-batch, Lakshay Pandey, recently shared his recipe to clear the UPSC exam and Twitteratis have been constantly applauding the young officer.

IT STARTED WITH A TWEET

Earlier in March 2021, Mr. Pandey shared a tweet in which he provided information about the books which are necessary for the preparation, according to his own past experience, as also some `mantras’ which would lead them to success. He has specifically mentioned the things which the aspirants must avoid while preparing. His approach towards reading ‘minimum books and doing maximum revision’ is also a major trick to clear the exam.

The tweet garnered more than thirty-seven thousand likes and seven thousand retweets. It was flooded with a message of thank you from every individual who was getting benefitted from the tips shared by the young officer.

Mr. Pandey, who belongs to the state of Uttarakhand, cleared the UPSC exam in 2018 and was allotted the Indian Police Service (IPS). He is also the person who scored the second highest marks in the sociology subject in his whole batch. The officer has also been quite popular on social media since he joined the civil services.

HOW TO PREPARE?

With an ongoing demand from aspirants, Mr. Pandey on 30 March again shared the strategy of how to prepare for the civil services exam. This time the officer came out with a step-by-step plan on how to start the day and what all particular subjects the aspirants need to focus on and for how long.

To start the day well the officer advised the aspirants to read newspapers for not more than one hour. He further asked them to study for four to five hours, which they can exceed to maximum eight to nine hours later on. He asked the aspirants to take a minimum sleep of seven hours so that they don’t feel exhausted and can concentrate on their studies. As people take too much stress by isolating themselves while preparing for the exam, the officer suggested the students not to do so. Rather, they should give time to their ‘family, friends and TV’ and can also spend some time using social media apps like Facebook and Instagram etc.

The officer further wrote about the individual subjects and how much time one should invest in one particular subject like polity, economics, modern Indian history, environment, science etc. As according to him, ‘revision is the key’, he has asked the aspirants to start revising every book, solve tests and memorize the explanation given at the end of the paper.

By making things easy, the officer has also given the six steps in short.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER

In the last picture of the tweet, the officer shares some important points which the aspirants should keep in mind while preparing for the exam. This includes solving test papers and ‘rattafication’ of the answers given at the end, purchasing books from the market rather than joining any online or offline coaching centre, focusing on revision, reading few book multiple times rather than reading multiple books, discussing topics with friends and family, etc.

The assistance from the officer’s side is not yet over as he will be back with another strategy for the preparation of mains exam separately.
