New Delhi: In a significant move to bolster judicial strength, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of 14 advocates to the Bombay High Court bench. The recommendations were made during the Collegium’s meeting held on August 19, 2025.
First Set: Six Advocates Recommended
In its initial round of deliberations, the Collegium proposed the elevation of the following six advocates:
- Nandesh Shankarrao Deshpande
- Amit Satyavan Jamsandekar
- Ashish Sahadev Chavan
- Vaishali Nimbajirao Patil-Jadhav
- Abasaheb Dharmaji Shinde
- Farhan Parvez Dubash
Second Set: Eight Additional Names Cleared
Following the first round, the Collegium further recommended the elevation of eight more advocates:
- Siddheshwar Sundarrao Thombre
- Mehroz Ashraf Khan Pathan
- Ranjitsinha Raja Bhonsale
- Sandesh Dadasaheb Patil
- Shreeram Vinayak Shirsat
- Hiten Shamrao Venegavkar
- Rajnish Ratnakar Vyas
- Raj Damodar Wakode
Next Step: Government Notification Awaited
With these two sets of recommendations, the Supreme Court Collegium has proposed a total of 14 names for appointment as judges of the Bombay High Court. Their elevation will become official upon the issuance of appointment notifications by the Union Government.
The move is expected to enhance judicial capacity and reduce case backlogs in one of the country’s busiest High Courts.
