Shimla: In a major development for the state bureaucracy, eight Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service (HAS) officers have been promoted to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Central Government issued the formal orders on Friday.
The promotions come following an induction process conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) two months ago at Peterhof, Shimla. These officers were part of the Zone of Consideration for promotion against vacancies in the IAS cadre reserved for state services officers.

Though there were only seven sanctioned vacancies under the promotion quota, eight HAS officers were considered and promoted. These appointments have been made on a probationary basis, pending the outcome of a case currently being heard in the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
IAS Cadre Strength in Himachal Pradesh
The sanctioned strength of the IAS cadre in Himachal Pradesh is 152. Currently, 114 officers are serving in the state, while over 15 are on central deputation. With these latest promotions, the number of IAS officers in the state now rises to 122.
This move is expected to enhance administrative efficiency and fill critical positions across the state.
