New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Tuesday approved the redesignation of four Indian Ordnance Factory Service (IOFS) officers of the 2012 batch from the rank of Deputy Secretary to Director at their respective places of posting in various ministries and departments of the Government of India.
The decision reflects routine cadre progression and recognition of seniority and experience gained by officers serving on central deputation.
Officers Granted Director-Level Redesignation
According to the ACC approval, the following officers have been redesignated as Directors:
Amrendra Kishore Singh (IOFS: 2012)
Currently serving as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries, he has been redesignated as Director in the same ministry.
Minhaz Ahmad (IOFS: 2012)
Serving as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, he has been redesignated as Director.
Prabhat Shrivastava (IOFS: 2012)
Currently posted as Deputy Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, he has been redesignated as Director.
Asif Ismail (IOFS: 2012)
Serving as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, he has also been redesignated as Director.
Significance of the Redesignation
The redesignation from Deputy Secretary to Director is a non-functional upgradation commonly granted to Group ‘A’ officers after completion of the prescribed tenure and performance benchmarks. It allows officers to discharge responsibilities at a higher administrative level while continuing in their current assignments.
Director-level positions typically involve:
- Greater policy formulation responsibilities
- Enhanced coordination across ministries and departments
- Increased supervisory and decision-making roles
Role of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) is the apex authority responsible for appointments, postings, and redesignations of senior officers in the Government of India. Decisions approved by the ACC are considered final and are issued through official notifications.
Strengthening Administrative Capacity
With this redesignation, the four IOFS officers will continue contributing to key sectors such as heavy industries, labour and employment, economic affairs, and cabinet coordination, bringing their technical and administrative expertise to higher leadership roles.
