Ahmedabad, Gujarat: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Standing Committee has approved development works worth ₹2,500 crore across the city, covering roads, drainage, water supply, bridges, civic infrastructure, and public spaces. The approval includes a ₹240-crore renovation project for Subhash Bridge, which was closed last year due to structural defects.
Major Road and Infrastructure Projects
Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani announced that road development projects worth ₹600 crore have been approved, including an iconic road corridor connecting Naroda to Narol.
“These projects aim to support Ahmedabad’s long-term urban growth and infrastructure expansion, ensuring the city develops rapidly ahead of major events such as the 2030 Commonwealth Games,” Dani said.
Additional infrastructure projects include works on drainage systems, water supply networks, urban health centres, bridges, footpaths, and community halls across multiple city wards.

₹240-Crore Renovation of Subhash Bridge
The Subhash Bridge, a key traffic corridor in Ahmedabad, will undergo major structural repairs in two phases:
- Phase 1: Demolition and rebuilding of the existing superstructure, along with structural strengthening, expected to take 9 months.
- Phase 2: Construction of two additional two-lane bridges on either side of the existing bridge, expected to take 24 months.
The project will include prestressed concrete girders, replacement of bridge bearings, deck slab waterproofing, bituminous wearing coat, expansion joints, and architectural lighting.
Mirant Parikh, an AMC official, said, “Subhash Bridge is like a lifeline for Ahmedabad as a large volume of traffic passes through it. The bridge was closed earlier as a precaution to ensure public safety.”
Development of Public Spaces and Heritage Projects
The AMC also approved ₹250 crore for upgrading various buildings and public locations, including:
- Facilities at Gujarat University and L.D. College of Engineering
- Heritage buildings and temples
- A new Lotus Garden in South Bopal, inspired by Kankaria and Vastrapur Lake, featuring replicas of flowers from every Indian state
Dani said the garden would create a unique attraction and enhance the happiness index of residents.
AI-Enabled Complaint Management System
AMC plans to upgrade its CCRS mobile application for complaint registration via helpline 155303 with artificial intelligence features. This will allow officials to upload photographs showing the status of complaints before and after completion, making AMC the first municipal corporation in India with an AI-based complaint system.
Expansion of Traffic Junctions
The Standing Committee approved the development of 25 additional traffic junctions, extending a previous project of 100 junctions, to improve traffic flow across the city.
