Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the 76th batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers at the BN Mullik Auditorium, emphasizing the critical role of police officers in ensuring citizen safety and upholding rights while taking a decisive stance against anti-national activities.

During his address, Shah highlighted the necessity for officers to focus on protecting the rights of vulnerable populations, including the poor, children, and women. “The time has come for us to focus on our core work,” he stated, urging the young officers to be remembered in their districts for their positive contributions.

Shah called on the probationers to adopt a “ruthless approach” to eliminate anti-national activities, reinforcing the idea that national security should always be at the forefront of their duties. He remarked, “While doing police work, the security of the nation should always be in our mind.”

He encouraged the officers to reflect on their responsibilities, noting that their batch would face challenges greater than those encountered by previous cohorts. “It is completely up to them whether our country will change the scale and enter the next generation of policing,” he added.

In his remarks, Shah reassured the trainees about improvements in security across various regions, including Jammu and Kashmir, the northeast, and areas affected by left-wing extremism. He reported a significant 70% reduction in violence in these hotspots, attributing this progress to the dominance of Indian agencies.

The Home Minister further emphasized that the essence of national security extends beyond borders, stating, “The nation is made of its citizens. The security of the citizen is the basis of the security of the nation.”

The 2023 batch comprises 188 officer trainees, including 54 women. After completing the basic training phase, these officers will undergo an additional 29 weeks of district practical training within their respective cadres, further equipping them for their future roles in law enforcement.
