New Delhi: The Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR), a leading public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, has announced the appointment of Anita Barik as its Group General Manager (Cargo & Operations). With this elevation, Barik has joined the senior management team of the company, a crucial step in strengthening CONCOR’s leadership in the logistics and containerized freight sector.

A Distinguished Career Path

Anita Barik is an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer of the 2007 batch. She brings with her over 18 years of experience in operations, administration, and vigilance across different sectors of Indian Railways and allied PSUs.

Prior to her elevation, Barik was serving as the Cluster Head of the Hyderabad Cluster at CONCOR, where she oversaw operations, customer engagement, and efficiency initiatives for one of the most strategically important clusters in southern India.

Before her stint in CONCOR, she worked as Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer (Technical) with South Central Railway, where she was responsible for ensuring compliance, integrity, and transparency in technical operations.

Academic Background

Barik holds an MPhil in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Her academic grounding in social sciences is seen as an asset in her leadership approach, particularly in managing diverse teams, stakeholder engagement, and implementing people-centric operational strategies.

Significance of the Appointment

With her appointment as Group General Manager (C&O), Anita Barik has entered the top management echelon of CONCOR. The Cargo & Operations division is considered the backbone of CONCOR, responsible for managing logistics operations, container freight stations, inland container depots, and strategic customer services across India.

Her leadership will be key as CONCOR focuses on:

  • Expanding its role in multi-modal logistics and inland container operations.
  • Supporting the government’s vision of making India a global logistics hub.
  • Strengthening efficiency and customer-centric services to compete with private players.

Looking Ahead

Industry observers believe that Anita Barik’s blend of railway operations expertise, vigilance experience, and on-ground leadership at the cluster level makes her well-suited to handle the complexities of CONCOR’s cargo and operations portfolio.

Her appointment also reflects a broader trend of IRTS officers transitioning into senior PSU leadership roles, leveraging their railway background to steer large-scale logistics operations.

About CONCOR

The Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, was incorporated in 1988 to manage and promote containerized freight transport in India. Over the years, it has emerged as a market leader in logistics, operating a network of inland container depots (ICDs), container freight stations (CFS), and logistics parks across the country.

With the government’s thrust on infrastructure, logistics modernization, and the PM Gati Shakti plan, CONCOR is playing a pivotal role in enhancing India’s logistics competitiveness globally.
