Dispur: The Assam Government has announced a major bureaucratic reshuffle, transferring and posting several Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers across key departments and districts.
The administrative exercise, carried out through an official notification, includes changes in district commissioners, secretaries, and senior departmental positions, reflecting the government’s effort to strengthen governance and improve administrative efficiency across the state.
Key IAS Officer Transfers
Among the significant changes, senior IAS officer Partha Pratim Majumdar, who was serving as Commissioner and Secretary to the Government in the Home & Political and Women & Child Development Departments, has been transferred and posted as District Commissioner (DC) of Bajali.
Another key appointment involves Narendra Kumar Shah, who was serving as Director of Employment and Craftsmen Training and Managing Director of the Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (AIIDC). He has now been appointed Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, while continuing to hold additional charge as Managing Director of AIIDC.
Meanwhile, Aditya Vikram Yadav, who was serving in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, has been transferred and posted as District Commissioner of Lakhimpur.
New District Commissioner Appointments
The reshuffle also includes several district-level postings.
• Preeti Kumari has been appointed District Commissioner of West Karbi Anglong.
• Ayushi Jain has been posted as District Commissioner of Darrang.
• Senior ACS officer Pubali Gohain, previously serving in Darrang, has been transferred and appointed District Commissioner of Golaghat.
At the district administration level, Dhiraj Saud has been appointed District Commissioner of Baksa after his services were withdrawn from the Welfare of Bodoland Department, while Gakul Chandra Brahma has been posted as District Commissioner of Chirang.
Secretaries Appointed in Key Departments
The reshuffle also saw multiple officers moving into key secretariat roles.
Saranga Pani Sarma, the outgoing District Commissioner of West Karbi Anglong, has been appointed Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Transport Department. He has also been given additional charge as State Project Director of the Assam Inland Water Transport Development Society.
Similarly, Gautam Das, who was serving as District Commissioner of Baksa, has been posted as Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department.
Former Chirang DC Jatin Bora has been appointed Secretary to the Government of Assam in the General Administration Department and the Department of Innovation, Incubation and Start-Ups.
Additional Secretaries and Departmental Roles
In other transfers:
• Pronab Jit Kakoty, previously serving in Lakhimpur, has been posted in the Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department as Additional Secretary and Director of Employment and Craftsmen Training.
• Parag Kumar Kakaty, who earlier served as District Commissioner of Golaghat, has been appointed Additional Secretary in the Revenue and Disaster Management Department. He will also hold additional charge as Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
• Mridul Kumar Das, the former District Commissioner of Bajali, has been transferred as Additional Secretary in the Home & Political and Women & Child Development Departments. He has also been assigned additional responsibilities related to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the e-FT project.
Aim of the Administrative Reshuffle
Officials said the large-scale reshuffle is part of the government’s broader effort to streamline administration, strengthen district governance, and improve coordination between departments.
Such administrative exercises are periodically carried out to optimize the deployment of officers, enhance efficiency, and address emerging governance needs across the state.
