MCL Appoints Awadh Kishore Pandey as Director (Technical/Projects & Planning) to Drive Project Expansion

Awadh Kishore Pandey, currently General Manager of the Lakhanpur Area at MCL, has been selected by the Public Enterprises Selection Board for the key leadership post at Coal India’s major subsidiary, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd.

New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Mr. Awadh Kishore Pandey for the post of Director (Technical/Projects & Planning) at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited. Pandey is currently serving as General Manager of the Lakhanpur Area at MCL.

Selection After Rigorous Process

According to official sources, the PESB conducted interviews to fill the key leadership position at MCL, with nine candidates shortlisted from prominent public sector undertakings, including Central Coalfields Ltd., NLC India Ltd., Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd., Coal India Ltd., and Hindustan Copper Ltd.
After a thorough assessment of their experience and technical expertise, Mr. Awadh Kishore Pandey was recommended for the post.

Current Director and Organizational Transition

At present, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Jha holds the position of Director (Technical/Projects & Planning) at Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. He assumed charge on 7th March 2025. Pandey’s selection comes as part of the company’s ongoing leadership transition aimed at strengthening its technical and project execution capabilities.

Mr. Pandey has a long association with Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. and brings extensive experience in mining operations, planning, and project management. As General Manager of the Lakhanpur Area, he has been instrumental in enhancing production efficiency and implementing sustainable mining practices. His elevation is expected to further accelerate MCL’s strategic initiatives in project expansion and technological modernization.
