New Delhi: In a significant move towards accessible and secure banking, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has launched Aadhaar-based face authentication for customer transactions across the country. The initiative aims to improve digital banking experiences, especially for the elderly, differently-abled, and those with worn fingerprints.
Facial Recognition for Seamless Banking
Developed under the framework of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the new feature enables customers to authenticate banking transactions using facial recognition. It eliminates the need for traditional biometric tools like fingerprint scanners or OTPs, paving the way for safer, contactless operations.
The face authentication system enhances accessibility and brings a new layer of convenience to customers who face challenges with existing verification methods. It is particularly relevant during medical emergencies where physical interaction can pose risks.
Financial Dignity for All
Highlighting the human-centric design of the initiative, IPPB’s MD and CEO R Viswesvaran stated, “At IPPB, we believe that banking should not just be accessible, but dignified too. With Aadhaar-based face authentication, we are ensuring that no customer is left behind due to limitations in biometric fingerprints or OTP verification. It’s a step towards redefining financial inclusion at scale.”
A Step Towards Inclusive Digital India
The feature is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting inclusive digital banking across remote and underserved areas. It not only reinforces IPPB’s commitment to financial empowerment but also supports the government’s larger vision of a digitally inclusive India.
