In a significant development for India’s defense sector, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has been awarded a Rs 593.22 crore (exclusive of taxes) contract by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for comprehensive maintenance of the Akash Missile System. The Navratna Defense PSU, which originally supplied the air defense system, will now provide crucial lifecycle support, reinforcing its integral role in India’s defense preparedness.

This substantial order marks a strong start to BEL’s 2025-26 fiscal year and demonstrates the company’s growing capabilities in defense maintenance services. The contract highlights the long-standing strategic partnership between BEL and the Indian armed forces, particularly in maintaining critical weapon systems.

In another positive development, BEL has successfully finalized negotiations for additional orders worth approximately Rs 5,000 crore across various defense projects. These impending contracts, expected to be formalized soon, position the company for robust growth in both domestic and international defense markets.

The Akash Missile System maintenance contract underscores BEL’s technological expertise in sustaining complex defense systems. As a key player in India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem, BEL continues to strengthen the nation’s self-reliance in defense through indigenous development and support of vital military equipment.

CMD Mr. Bhanu Prakash Srivastava stated, “This order reaffirms the armed forces’ trust in BEL’s capabilities. We remain committed to supporting our defense forces with cutting-edge technology and comprehensive lifecycle solutions.”

The company’s order book continues to reflect strong demand, with current orders exceeding Rs 25,000 crore, ensuring sustained growth momentum. BEL’s consistent performance and expanding portfolio reinforce its position as a premier defense electronics manufacturer supporting India’s security infrastructure.

A Navratna DPSU under the Ministry of Defence, BEL is India’s leading defense electronics company with diverse capabilities spanning radars, missile systems, electronic warfare, and communications. The Bangalore-headquartered company plays a strategic role in India’s defense manufacturing and technology development.
