Bengaluru: In a significant boost to Bengaluru’s vision as a global aerospace hub, BEML Limited inaugurated a cutting-edge warehousing facility spread over 0.12 acres within the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) Aerospace Special Economic Zone (SEZ) today. The facility was inaugurated by Mr Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director, BEML, in the presence of functional directors, senior BEML officials, and dignitaries from KIADB.
Strategic Expansion with Phase II Foundation Stone Laid
Alongside the inauguration, the foundation stone was laid for Phase II of the development, which will see the construction of a 1.15-acre facility within the same SEZ. BEML currently owns a total of 25 acres in the Aerospace SEZ, intending to develop it into a comprehensive industrial hub catering to the booming defence and aviation sectors.
This development forms a key part of BEML’s long-term vision to support India’s aerospace growth, fostering a robust supply chain ecosystem for global and domestic Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
Visionary Leadership on Display
Speaking at the event, Mr Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML, emphasized the strategic importance of the new warehousing infrastructure. He stated,
“This facility is more than just infrastructure—it represents the foundation for future capabilities in advanced manufacturing, Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services, and global exports aligned with international OEM standards. BEML is fully committed to supporting Karnataka’s vision of transforming this Aerospace SEZ into a world-class hub for India’s aviation and defence sectors.“
He further highlighted plans to develop a dedicated manufacturing unit spanning over 20 acres near the Kempegowda International Airport. This unit will focus on producing next-generation aerostructures, drones, aggregates, and components for the Air Defence and allied sectors through collaborations with global aerospace OEMs.
Enhancing Logistics and Employment
To support warehousing operations, BEML has partnered with M/s LOM Logistics India Pvt. Ltd., a reputed logistics service provider experienced in SEZ and Domestic Tariff Area operations. The facility is designed not only to meet BEML’s internal logistics needs but also to provide warehousing and allied services to other OEMs, Tier-1, and Tier-2 suppliers.
Located near NH7, the Outer Ring Road, and close to the airport, the SEZ facility offers excellent connectivity, making it a strategic hub for domestic and global trade.
This initiative is expected to generate over 500 direct employment opportunities, boosting local economic development and strengthening Karnataka’s position in the aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.
Towards a Centre of Excellence for Aerospace Technologies
BEML envisions establishing a Centre of Excellence for Aerospace Technologies within the SEZ, aiming to empower India’s self-reliance journey in defence and aerospace manufacturing. This centre will foster innovation, collaboration, and growth, reinforcing BEML’s role as a key player in the international aerospace landscape.
