State-owned engineering powerhouse BEML Ltd has marked a significant achievement in India’s urban transport journey with the unveiling of its 2,100th metro coach from its Bengaluru plant. The milestone was celebrated in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, who also formally handed over the land allotment letter for BEML’s upcoming production facility in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh.

The new manufacturing site will be established in Umeria, Raisen, across 60.063 hectares. It is designed to manufacture rolling stock and metro rail coaches, catering to both mainline rail and city metro systems. Facilitated by the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC), the expansion aims to strengthen regional industrial development and generate large-scale employment opportunities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Mohan Yadav remarked, “BEML’s 2,100th metro coach stands as a proud example of India’s technological progress and engineering excellence. The launch of the new unit in Raisen signifies our state’s growing contribution to national infrastructure and inclusive growth.”

This landmark coach has been developed for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) through the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). It meets the highest Grade of Automation level (GoA4), allowing fully unattended train operation (UTO), and incorporates modern safety protocols and commuter-friendly innovations that align with international standards.
One of the defining features of this trainset is India’s first Onboard Condition Monitoring System. This integrated platform includes five sophisticated modules to monitor rail tracks, overhead power lines, pantograph-OHE interaction, arc incidents, and rail wear — all in real-time. These capabilities support predictive maintenance and remote diagnostics, enhancing both safety and performance.
BEML Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Shantanu Roy expressed appreciation for the support from the Madhya Pradesh government. “This new facility will further strengthen our capacity to deliver top-tier metro and rail solutions to both Indian and global markets,” he stated. “Crossing the 2,100-coach milestone underscores our continued focus on innovation, self-reliance, and infrastructure excellence.”
The newly launched coach also features an ergonomically enhanced interior with user-centric designs — including dynamic route maps, air-conditioning, CCTV surveillance, smart fire detection systems, and cycle stands to support eco-friendly commuting.
BEML began its metro coach production journey in the early 2000s with the RS1 project for DMRC. Over the years, its coaches have become integral components of metro systems in cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Mumbai. With continued emphasis on automation, sustainability, and indigenous manufacturing, BEML remains a central force in India’s metro expansion story.
