With elections approaching, the Bengal government has stepped up its administrative reshuffle. On Saturday, six senior IPS officers were transferred in a significant pre-poll move. The changes involve officers in the ranks of ADG, IG, DIG and SP, signalling strategic realignments in key positions across the state.
KEY CHANGE IN SOUTH BENGAL
Rajeev Mishra, who was serving as ADG and IGP (Modernisation and Coordination), has been appointed as ADG, South Bengal. The post had fallen vacant after Supratim Sarkar was moved to serve as the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata. Mishra will now oversee policing in several crucial southern districts.
NEW CID CHIEF APPOINTED
Laxmi Narayan Meena, previously ADG and IG, Correctional Services, has been posted as ADG and IGP, CID. He replaces the previous CID chief, who was recently appointed as ADG (Cyber). Meena will now head the state’s premier investigative agency at a time when cyber and organised crimes remain key concerns.
CHANGES IN INTELLIGENCE AND DISTRICTS
Mukesh, who was IGP of the Murshidabad and Jangipur range, has been appointed as IGP, Intelligence Branch (IB). Meanwhile, Syed Waquar Raza, earlier DIG of Nadia and Ranaghat range, has been posted as DIG, Murshidabad range. He had served in the same position before a recent transfer.
SP-LEVEL TRANSFERS
At the district level, Amarnath K, SP of Krishnanagar Police District, has been transferred as SP, Jalpaiguri. Y Raghuvamshi, who was serving as SP, Jalpaiguri, will now take charge as SP, Krishnanagar Police Division.
The reshuffle is seen as part of routine administrative adjustments ahead of the polls. However, such changes often carry strategic importance in ensuring smooth law and order management during election season.
