New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), hosted the fourth edition of its annual dialogue, BHEL SAMVAAD 4.0, at Bharat Mandapam on November 26, 2025. The event focused on the theme “Strengthening Self-Reliance Through Innovation and Collaboration” and brought together a diverse range of stakeholders from industry, government, academia, and research institutions.
Union Minister Praises BHEL’s Role
Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, Mr. H. D. Kumaraswamy, lauded BHEL for its pivotal role in advancing the nation’s manufacturing capabilities. He described SAMVAAD as a unique platform fostering collaboration and innovation, aligning with the government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). The minister highlighted how initiatives like Make in India and Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes have contributed to transformative growth in India’s manufacturing sector.
Key Discussions and Initiatives
The event hosted stakeholders from various government ministries—including DoE, DPIIT, MoP, MeitY, and Railways—as well as central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) such as NTPC, SAIL, HAL, BPCL, IOCL, and ONGC. The dialogue aimed to accelerate BHEL’s efforts in localization, procurement, and product development.
Ministry’s Perspective: Mr. Kamran Rizvi, Secretary (HI), commended BHEL for using the platform to encourage indigenization. He noted that the technical sessions covered advanced topics, including Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, reflecting the bank’s emphasis on innovation.
Supplier Development: Mr. Vijay Mittal, Joint Secretary (HI), emphasized the importance of developing local suppliers to strengthen the domestic industrial ecosystem. He praised BHEL for leveraging platforms such as Government e Marketplace (GeM) to enhance transparency in procurement and support the growth of MSMEs.
CMD’s Message: Mr. K. Sadashiv Murthy, CMD of BHEL, highlighted the company’s broader focus beyond just indigenizing procurement. He noted that BHEL is also committed to developing products for other entities to reduce imports. As an example, he mentioned the successful development and supply of Ceramic Pouring Tubes to Indian Railways, underscoring BHEL’s commitment to self-reliance and innovation.
During the event, the Union Minister released “Udyog Bharati,” a magazine from MHI, along with BHEL’s engineering compendium, “Innovation to AatmaNirbharta.” Star performers contributing to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative were recognized for their exemplary efforts.
