Bhopal: The first phase of Bhopal Metro’s Orange Line, known as the ‘Priority Corridor,’ was inaugurated on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in urban transportation for the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. The ceremony was graced by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, at the Kushabhau International Convention Centre. Following the inauguration, both dignitaries flagged off the metro train from Subhash Metro Station, officially commencing operations on this state-of-the-art corridor.
CM Mohan Yadav remarked that it is a matter of pride that metro services have been launched in two major cities of Madhya Pradesh within the same year. He emphasized that with the growth of metropolitan infrastructure, the state is scripting a new chapter of progress and urban development.
Phase 1 – Priority Corridor Details
The Priority Corridor spans approximately 7 kilometers and includes eight elevated stations: AIIMS, Alkapuri, DRM Office, Rani Kamalapati Station, MP Nagar, Board Office Chauraha, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and Subhash Nagar. This corridor aims to provide seamless transportation along busy city routes, significantly reducing traffic congestion and contributing to pollution control. The new metro line will make commuting more convenient and efficient for residents, offering a reliable alternative to road transport.
The Priority Corridor is expected to handle a daily ridership of around 3,000 passengers, streamlining urban mobility and enhancing connectivity across key areas of Bhopal.
