Rajkot: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Rajkot is set to benefit from multiple infrastructure projects aimed at improving urban living and promoting sports, tourism, and public amenities.
The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC), as part of the Urban Development Year 2025 initiative, is constructing an Olympic and Commonwealth Games-compatible sports complex in Ward No. 17. The facility will provide world-class training infrastructure and a competitive environment for athletes from Rajkot and the Saurashtra region.
Affordable Housing Projects Near Completion
To address the city’s housing needs, RMC is nearing completion of 1,010 EWS II-type housing units in Railnagar under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with an investment of over Rs 119 crore. Each unit includes rooftop solar systems, water and drainage connections, gas pipelines, rainwater harvesting, automatic generators, fire safety equipment, and children’s play areas.
The housing project also features a shopping centre and anganwadi, ensuring integrated living solutions for residents.

Convention Centre and Women’s Hostel Strengthen Rajkot’s Urban Growth
Rajkot, an industrial hub in Saurashtra, is set to receive a modern convention centre funded through Central and State Government grants. Additionally, a state-of-the-art working women’s hostel is under construction in the Smart City area, with an allocation of Rs 49 crore, aiming to provide secure and modern accommodation for female professionals.
Drinking Water Infrastructure Expansion
To ensure safe drinking water amid rapid city growth, a 50 MLD filter plant is under development at Nyara, along with an underground sump of 342.72 lakh litres capacity and a pump house. In Madhapar, a 24.19 MLD Ground Service Reservoir and a 3 MLD Elevated Service Reservoir are underway at a cost of Rs 31.75 crore, alongside ongoing pumping station construction.
Lion Safari Park Project Advances
Promoting tourism and wildlife conservation, the Lion Safari Park in Rajkot is progressing rapidly. The compound wall and five-metre-high chain-link fencing have been completed, ensuring safety for animals and visitors.
Night shelters, internal roads, and an inspection pathway around the park have also been finalised, positioning it as a key attraction for citizens and tourists alike.
Holistic Urban Development in Rajkot
Through initiatives such as Atal Sarovar, AIIMS, the International Airport, and multiple flyovers, the Gujarat Government continues to enhance Rajkot’s infrastructure and residents’ quality of life. These projects reflect a comprehensive vision of urban development, combining sports, housing, water security, tourism, and sustainable urban growth.
