Lucknow – In a major push to public healthcare infrastructure, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth ₹941 crore at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow. The landmark initiative includes the inauguration of two newly constructed super-specialty medical blocks and the foundation laying for three upcoming health facilities, marking one of the largest single-day investments in the state’s medical sector.
According to KGMU spokesperson Prof. K.K. Singh, the CM inaugurated a 340-bed Orthopedic Super Specialty Centre and a 92-bed Cardiology ICU block, both designed to enhance specialty treatment, emergency care, and patient load capacity at the university hospital.
The event took place at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Convention Centre on the KGMU campus. Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak, along with Minister of State for Health Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, were also present during the program.
State-of-the-Art Healthcare Infrastructure Unveiled
The Orthopedic Super Specialty Centre, a seven-storey building, will bring several departments under one roof including Orthopedic Surgery, Sports Medicine, Pediatric Orthopedics, Radiology, and Pathology. Key features include:
- 220 beds for orthopedic care
- 60 beds each for sports and pediatric orthopedic treatment
- 24 High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds
- 8 modular operation theatres
- 24 private patient rooms
The newly inaugurated Cardiology ICU block significantly expands the capacity of the Lari Cardiology Centre, increasing ICU beds from 84 to 180. It also features:
- 2 catheterization labs (cath labs)
- 6 echocardiography machines
- 96 bedside monitors
- 120 syringe pumps
- Advanced cardiology equipment for critical care
Foundation Laid for Three Major Projects
In addition to the inaugurations, CM Yogi also laid the foundation stones for three upcoming projects:
- A 500-bed Trauma Centre (Trauma-2 Block) with an investment of ₹296 crore, expected to improve emergency and accident care.
- A 300-bed General Surgery Building costing ₹315 crore, which will house 12 operation theatres, including one with robotic surgery technology, and a two-level underground parking facility.
- A new administrative block and diagnostic guest house, which will further modernize KGMU’s overall infrastructure and patient services.
Healthcare Transformation in UP
This ₹941 crore investment is part of the Yogi Adityanath government’s broader vision to modernize healthcare in Uttar Pradesh. The upgrades at KGMU aim to reduce patient wait times, improve specialty care, and bring cutting-edge medical technology to one of North India’s most prominent public hospitals.
Officials believe the expansion will not only benefit residents of Lucknow but also patients from across Purvanchal and neighboring states who rely on KGMU for advanced medical treatment.
