Patna: The Society Welfare Department of Bihar inaugurated the ‘Aakanksha’ hostel in IAS Colony (Rupaspur), Danapur, aimed at providing safe accommodation for working women. Operated by the Women and Child Development Corporation, Bihar, the hostel has a 50-bed capacity and will function under the Chief Minister Nari Shakti Scheme.
Free Accommodation with Affordable Meals
The hostel offers free lodging to residents, while a monthly fee of ₹3,000 has been fixed for meals. Each resident will have access to beds, lockers, tables and chairs, along with 24-hour CCTV surveillance, uninterrupted electricity, RO drinking water, television, and free Wi-Fi.
The four-story building has two kitchens on each floor, and staff including a superintendent, assistant superintendent, and cooks have been appointed to manage daily operations.

Empowering Women Through Safe Housing
Bandana Preyashi, Managing Director of the Corporation, said the hostel is a significant step to strengthen the CM Nari Shakti Scheme at the grassroots level. It ensures that working women in government or private services can perform their duties without fear while residing safely in the city.
The government plans to open similar hostels in Gaya, Darbhanga, and Bhagalpur, extending secure accommodation options to women working across the state.
Online Application and Selection Process
Interested candidates can apply online through the Women and Child Development Corporation’s official website. Selection will follow a ‘first-come, first-served’ principle, followed by counseling for final admission.
Eligibility criteria include:
- Maximum monthly income: ₹75,000
- Mandatory submission of employment proof, identity proof, appointment letter, salary slip, local guardian details, and disability certificate (if applicable)
Selected candidates must deposit the ₹3,000 monthly meal fee in their designated bank account and join the hostel within 30 days of approval.
