Patna: In a strong example of women-led entrepreneurship, the Jeevika Bag Cluster in Muzaffarpur, Bihar has emerged as a successful model of livelihood generation, earning over ₹19.75 crore in revenue between 2023 and 2026.
Operated under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the initiative is empowering rural women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs), helping them achieve financial independence and sustainable employment.
42 Enterprises Produce Over 44 Lakh Units
According to officials, the bag cluster has delivered impressive production results between December 2023 and January 2026:
- 42 bag manufacturing enterprises operational
- 32.69 lakh bags produced
- 12.08 lakh rain covers manufactured
- Average monthly turnover of ₹43 lakh
The products manufactured by “Jeevika Didis” are witnessing strong demand not only in Bihar but also in other states.

The cluster has generated:
- ₹16.34 crore revenue from bag cluster sheds alone
- Total revenue exceeding ₹19.75 crore

The bag cluster has significantly contributed to employment and income growth:
- Average monthly earning of ₹10,403 for women entrepreneurs
- Women workers earn around ₹5,192 per month
- Average daily wage of ₹263.90 over 19 working days
The initiative is helping hundreds of women improve their economic and social status.
Modern Infrastructure Supporting Women Workforce
The Muzaffarpur bag cluster is equipped with several modern facilities to create a women-friendly work environment:
- Production sheds with advanced machinery
- Common Facility Centre
- Cluster office
- Crèche (childcare centre) for workers’ children
- Community kitchen (Jeevika Didi ki Rasoi)
These facilities ensure better working conditions and support for women workers.
