Patna: In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening rural women’s participation in government schemes and fostering social and economic progress, the Bihar government has launched the Mahila Samvad Program, spearheaded by Jeevika, under the Rural Development Department.

This innovative program is designed to facilitate direct communication between rural women and the government to understand their experiences, feedback, and suggestions regarding various welfare schemes. It is the first of its kind in Bihar, where women themselves are not just participants but also active communicators, sharing their stories of success and aspirations with the government.

Key Features of the Mahila Samvad Program

Women-Centered Dialogue: The Mahila Samvad Program is being organized and led by women. Women from around the state are not only sharing their success stories but also expressing their expectations for future welfare programs and developmental schemes.

Wide Participation: Around 90 lakh rural women are connected through 45,196 village organizations. The program ensures daily participation, where rural women actively discuss their progress through government schemes and voice their opinions for further improvements.

Focus on Empowerment: Through Jeevika’s Mahila Gram Sangathans, the program aims to enhance women’s self-reliance and rural development. It has created opportunities for women to engage in decision-making and contribute to societal progress.

Short Films for Awareness: To increase awareness, three short films have been produced, showcasing the government’s schemes for women empowerment and self-reliance. These films are shown during the program to highlight the real-life impact of these initiatives.

Community Engagement: The program encourages participation from rural women and students, particularly focusing on issues like education, self-employment, and the demand for local employment to curb migration. Women, who have become role models in self-reliance, empowerment, and leadership, share their success stories with others.

Government Support: The program also displays government support through leaflets and a message letter from Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar, which further connects the women to the ongoing development efforts in their villages.

Jeevika’s Role

Jeevika, the organization entrusted with the responsibility of organizing Mahila Samvad, is playing a pivotal role in bringing together village committees and government representatives. These committees, formed by women themselves, coordinate the sessions and help disseminate valuable information.

This dialogue platform also allows for better implementation and feedback on various state schemes, ensuring that rural women benefit more effectively from government support. Through this initiative, women empowerment, self-reliance, and community development are at the forefront, driving the state towards sustainable progress.

The Mahila Samvad program is a critical step towards involving women in shaping their future, ensuring they have a direct voice in the ongoing development of their communities and villages.
