Patna: The Bihar government has stepped up efforts to enhance road and bridge infrastructure across the state, with the ambitious JP Ganga Path expansion project set to connect Digha to Koilwar over 35.65 kilometers at an estimated cost of ₹6,495 crore.
Pankaj Kumar Pal, Secretary of the Road Construction Department, conducted a high-level review meeting with officials from Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) and Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited (BRPNNL) to assess the progress of ongoing road and bridge projects. The review included key discussions on land acquisition, project delays, and measures to ensure quality execution within stipulated timelines.
JP Ganga Path Expansion to Boost Connectivity
The expansion will develop a four-lane corridor running from Digha through Sherpur and Bihta, reaching the newly constructed bridge at Koilwar. This project is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the region, facilitating smoother traffic flow and economic activity.
During the meeting, Secretary Pal also reviewed the progress of the Bakhtiyarpur (Karjan) to Tajpur (Samastipur) bridge over the Ganga River. He instructed officials to accelerate construction to ensure timely completion, emphasizing the substantial convenience the bridge will provide to commuters.
6-Lane Ganga Bridge Project
The development of the six-lane Ganga Bridge, spanning approximately 19.76 kilometers with a project cost of ₹4,998.4 crore, was also reviewed. The project aims to strengthen regional infrastructure and support increased traffic capacity.
Other Key Road Projects Reviewed
Secretary Pal reviewed several other critical road projects, including:
- Construction of a 1.55 km road from Patna Sahib station to Patna Ghat, costing ₹52.54 crore.
- Progress on the Mithapur-Sipara and Mahuli-Punpun 4.3 km road projects.
- Four-laning of State Highway SH-106 (Dhidarganj-Fatuha-Bakhtiyarpur-Karjan route), spanning 41.27 km, aimed at enhancing connectivity in the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur region.
The review also included updates on the construction of four-lane roads connecting the western and eastern ends of Eco Park to Atal Path, including the underground drainage system over Serpentine Nala, as well as the connectivity improvements for Nehru Path via Patli Path.
Railway Overbridge Projects
Physical and financial progress on major Railway Overbridge (ROB) projects was examined. The Secretary specifically reviewed the construction of a two-lane ROB near Bakhtiyarpur Engineering College and other related projects, emphasizing that all obstacles must be resolved promptly to ensure quality and timely completion.
Government Commitment to Infrastructure Development
Secretary Pal underscored that these projects are part of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s ambitious infrastructure vision for Bihar. Officials were directed to ensure smooth execution and eliminate bottlenecks to deliver high-quality roads and bridges on schedule.
With these initiatives, Bihar is moving steadily toward modernizing its transport network, enhancing connectivity across major districts, and boosting regional economic growth.
