Patna: In a significant step toward modernizing its law enforcement machinery, Bihar Police has launched an intensive training initiative dubbed ‘Class of New Law’, aimed at upgrading officers with the latest legal frameworks and forensic tools. The move comes in light of the introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, replacing the colonial-era Indian Penal Code.
Focus on Modern Technology and New Legal Frameworks
Police personnel across Bihar are being trained not just in the legal nuances of BNSS, but also in cutting-edge crime-solving techniques. These include:
- DNA forensics
- Fingerprint analysis
- CCTV and mobile data tracking
- Digital forensics
- Photography and videography for evidence collection
The training is being conducted at the Advanced Training School (ATS) under the supervision of CID, with an average of 350 officers trained monthly.

Training Scale and Expansion
So far, 3,137 police officers have completed this training. The 173rd batch is set to begin from September 2, following the successful completion of the 171st batch, which included 343 directly appointed sub-inspectors.
The 15-day program covers:
- Core elements of BNSS 2023
- Practical sessions on evidence authentication
Use of digital tools to enhance investigation speed and accuracy
Collaboration with National Institutes
To ensure high-quality learning, the Bihar Police is also collaborating with premier national institutions such as:
- National Forensic Science University (Delhi)
- NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau)
- CDTI (Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Meghalaya)
There are plans to train over 2,000 officers in these institutes by next year.
Goal: Swift Justice Through Better Policing
ADG-CID Parasnath emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize Bihar Police and ensure that justice is served quickly and accurately. “The training modules are designed to make evidence collection more scientific and foolproof, leading to higher conviction rates,” he stated.
The integration of technology with law enforcement will help tackle crime more effectively, reduce delays in justice, and empower the police force with tools needed for 21st-century challenges.
