Patna: The Bihar Police Department has issued new directives empowering Inspector General (IG) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) officers to approve the daily rest allowance (Viram Bhatta) for personnel from constables to police inspectors for periods exceeding 10 days. The decision covers all police units under the state police, including railway police, and extends to the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSP).
The order has been issued by ADG (Budget/Appeal/Welfare) Dr. Kamal Kishore Singh with the approval of the Finance Department, aiming to streamline processes and eliminate administrative delays in sanctioning long-duration rest allowances.
Key Highlights of the New Directive
- IGs and DIGs are now authorized to approve daily rest allowances exceeding 10 days.
- The directive applies to all police units, including railway police and Bihar Special Armed Police.
- Prior to this order, approvals required repeated clarifications from headquarters, causing delays and administrative difficulties.
This reform addresses longstanding issues where unclear instructions created confusion in processing allowance requests for longer periods.
Objective: Simplified and Efficient Approval Process
According to the Bihar Police headquarters, the move will streamline administrative procedures, reduce the need for repeated approvals from headquarters, and ensure timely disbursement of allowances to personnel.
The order also ensures uniform implementation across all police units, enhancing operational efficiency and personnel welfare.
Impact on Police Personnel
With this new authority vested in IGs and DIGs:
- Police personnel will receive faster approvals for extended rest allowances.
- Administrative bottlenecks at headquarters will be minimized.
- Officers in all ranks, from constables to inspectors, will benefit from a more predictable and efficient system.
The Bihar Police Department has emphasized that this step is part of ongoing efforts to enhance personnel welfare while improving operational efficiency across the state.
